Steiner probably laid the plan out for them that they could get about three times as many jerseys sold for five times the money. It's all profit for the club so of course they'd do it. The other issue is that Steiner keeps the prices on their website high, even when they are selling the jerseys for a fraction of the cost to their 'clients'. They have had the effect of driving up overall prices. I don't recall SCF jerseys ever being as expensive as they are this year and it is all MG.
