IIHFjerseycollector
the real authentics for the top levels have fight straps. Nike made 3 different versions of jerseys.

Legit, but may I interest you in an Isles jersey? Anyway, RCS has the customized Pens for $170, if you are interested (not in the blue though) https://www.rivercitysports.com/US/details-06.cfm?sku=117990

Yeah I was considering the RCS custom for $170, but I am a little skeptical of RCS customization. I have heard mixed reviews. Do they use the exact materials as what the players wear on the ice? Aka is their customization accurate?

They do use glacier twill for the Pens, I just dont know if they kiss cut it at RCS.
Robert Ullman
I had a Crosby replica done up at RCS last year, and they did a bang-up job. Glacier twill, kiss-cut...looking at the Crosby kit next to my GI Luca Caputi customised by Cutting Edge, and there's almost no difference. They even gave me the current, correct captain's "C", the one that's "thinner" at the top and bottom.

I would think that with a few words of direction you'd be good as gold. I mainly dealt with Rob Main over there...he was usually pretty good about getting back to me. I'd post you some photos but this friggin' bicth of a hurricane has had me without power for the better part of four days.

akteon
Legit? As LAK said, looks legit. The crest looks a little puffy but just could be from age/washing a bunch ... might be able to hit it with an iron (safely from the back with a t-shirt between the iron and jersey) if that's the case. That style ducks actually have a puffy logo, it's how they were made. It doesn't translate good in photos but in person the puffiness actually adds to the look
cuore_azzurro
Um, sorry if this is overwhelming, but i have a number of sweaters I'd like to ask about. First post by the way, go me! First, I came across a seller on eBay who had a number of replica 80s jerseys, can anyone confirm realness/give information regarding these? http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-1970s-COLORADO-ROCKIES-AK-NHL-HOCKEY-JERSEY-LG-/250876684551?pt=Vintage_Sports_Memorabilia&hash=item3a696a6907#ht_500wt_1128 http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-1970s-GILBERT-PERREAULT-BUFFALO-SABRES-JERSEY-/260819657488?pt=Vintage_Sports_Memorabilia&hash=item3cba102310#ht_500wt_1128 And um, please don't just go ahead and snatch this from under my nose if it is indeed real, that wouldn't be very nice of you But I would absolutely love to have this jersey, if it's legit. In the era this jersey is from, shouldn't there be a name on the back as well? Pics provided are also not very helpful. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Quebec-Nordiques-Vintage-Hockey-Sweater-Scarce-SK-/110731100034?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19c8167f82#ht_600wt_1347 I can identify jerseys from the 90s but I know nothing about ones from the 80s aside from that Nike made them for the Oilers, and prior to that I know nothing at all. Thanks to anyone who can help me! Edited September 2, 2011 by coure_azzurro
MrBlack
This one says it is authentic, but the sellers feedback isn't as high as others. What do you guys think? http://www.ebay.com/itm/EDMONTON-OILERS-GRETZKY-VINTAGE-HOME-CCM-NHL-JERSEY-M-/300495374821?pt=U_Hockey_Fan_Shop&hash=item45f6eb89e5 This one is a replica of the one above, right? http://www.ebay.com/itm/270719987162?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

(Authentics come in numerical sizes like 52, 54, etc., not lettered sizes like S, M, L) The description of the item clearly indicates it's a replica jersey. Many times sellers use the word "authentic" to mean legitimate, officially-licensed product (as opposed to knockoff or fake), but among jersey collectors this term really refers to on-ice jerseys that are the same as the ones used by the pros. Both of these jerseys look legit, take your pick. Price seems a little high; if you look hard enough you might be able to find a better deal. MrBlack
Thanks, I really wasn't sure about that first one because at the top of the descciption it says, "We sell Authentic Jerseys" but later it is referred to as a CCM replica. Is this the same thing to then? It is a little cheaper, but the orange looks a little off to me. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Authentic-NWT-XL-Wayne-Gretzky-Oilers-home-jersey-/220842611238?pt=U_Hockey_Fan_Shop&hash=item336b3ed226 Thanks a lot I appreciate the help, I'm trying to get a decent white Gretzky without breaking the bank. cuore_azzurro
Oh, and this isn't a jersey question, but the seller with the Nords jersey I posted above also has a number of (in my opinion) gorgeous vintage jackets for sale, and claims they're 'game worn.' NHL players have never worn jackets during games, and so far as I know, until the early 90s almost all NHL coaches dressed formally on the bench, didn't they? I've certainly never seen any pictures of a coach wearing a team jacket on the bench in those days at any rate, the earliest coach I can recall wearing a jacket on the bench is Pat Burns, and he wore those ugly nylon windbreakers, God rest his soul. How can you have a game worn jacket in the NHL? I'm sure there are thousands of people who'd blindly fall for it though without questioning and then tell all their friends about their Blues jacket actually worn on the bench by Bernie Federko. Yeah, the color looks off, but it could just be the lighting- the pictures aren't good at all. They're fuzzy too, so you can't see how good the customization is, like if the numbers are wrinkled looking, which is a good sign it's a fake. Chances are the jersey is probably legit, but because of the poor photos, don't quote me on that. Btw, watch out for jerseys that have NUMERICAL sizes with these same CCM vintage neck labels and Vintage Hockey/Heroes of Hockey sleeve tags- these are faked all the time. Maybe the jackets were worn in practice or something like that. The seller does have some great jerseys though, I picked up a Blackhawks tbtc ultrafil barberpole from him. On the way to EPS to be made into a Larmer.

Like anything, you just need to do your research, but I do not believe the jackets were ever worn in any "game" situation. The seller will be listing more jerseys (mostly AHL) later on, and I have given him some information about them to help in their listings. I ended up picking up one of his jerseys that contrary to his information was game-worn. Nothing spectacular but a reasonable pickup.
