It is good or not?

The jersey looks legit, but is the customization on the alternates supposed to be layered?

That's mine. The black design has three-color name and numbers, bronze/blue/white. To the perfectionist, there are some issues with this jersey. Mainly, the CCM/orange NHL back hem dates this to the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons, but Jagr began playing for the Caps in 2001-02. And there is no nameplate, either.

Other than the "C" being the hideous version, and the nameplate looking a little bunched up in the lower right corner, does this thing look legit?

It's priced right.

Awful fake. It's not an Edge cut (arms should naturally be angled down instead of sideways, tail not curvy enough), the collar laces are too long and are covering up the NHL logo, and the neck tag should be black for authentics. Specific to this design, there should be no black Reebok ribbon on the back neck (just the white ribbon with stars) and the "We Fight, We March" text is too big and messy. To compare, check out the unveiling gallery on the team website.

Got a few for you guys if you don't mind:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160628643552&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

My main concern is that the gold seems to be a bit off in this one.

My link

The only year it can be is 87-88 because of the gold collar, but I can't see the hem tag.

I think all jerseys are legit. I've never seen a fake Starter or Koho jersey and those semipro CCM-jerseys usually aren't that expensive.

All of those are replicas, there's absolutely nothing wrong with any of them (except maybe the gold on the first one) - Replicas aren't faked, it just doesn't make sense money-wise for the bootleggers to knock off replicas. They're all legit, those prices are about what a blank replica should go for on eBay. Anything more than 40 or 50 bucks is overpriced, depending on the jersey of course.

I've seen Started authentics faked, but that only happens with Gretzky jerseys and only the Rangers.

Hey, I've got a couple I'd appreciate an opinion on.

http://edmonton.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-sports-bikes-ATTN-Ales-Hemsky-Fans-Home-and-3rd-Jersey-W0QQAdIdZ302173332#

Judging by price & bubbly numbers/crest I'd assume both are fakes.

But they seem better than most of the other obvious fakes out there

(for example, http://edmonton.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-art-collectibles-SIGNED-ALES-HEMSKY-JERSEY-EDMONTON-OILERS-SIZE-52-W0QQAdIdZ299997351# )

Let me know, thanks!

You've said it yourself, an authentic jersey for 50 bucks is always a fake. Besides the bubbly numbers, look at the NHL-shield on the home jersey

And a good fake is still a fake.

Hey guys, just wondering, does shiny material usually indicate a fake? I've heard different things.

In most cares, yes. Vinyl is shiny in general, and that's what the bootleggers use for the most part. They don't necessarily have things like twill in China. From what I've seen though, you buy replicas (which is fine - I don't own any authentics either) - You don't have to worry about replicas. Replicas don't get faked.

I hope you guys can help me out here: I've bought a Pens Melichar gameworn jersey a few months ago and I want to check if it's actually gameworn. It has some gameworn features, like puck and stick marks and the player's number in the label. There's also a label with a date on the washing label, don't know why..The jersey didn't come with a COA or a Meigray-type label in the jersey.

I cant tell you much other than the fact that the date tag is basically on all jerseys. Its their born on date basically.

Penguins jerseys have tagging like this on the inside back hem

alttag.jpg

and are signed by the equipment manager on the fight strap.

They have done this throughout the 2000s, not sure as to the 1990s, but since yours is a 2000-era jersey, it should have these if it is a true game worn jersey.

Yeah, that's the thing that puzzles me. The marks are there, the size is correct, the player's number on the label is correct but that tagging is missing..

Just a thought...That little date tag sticker doesn't look like it has seen much in the way of sweaty hockey action. Most of my gamers are older so someone else may be able to let you know if their MeiGrey gamers still have the sticker and in what condition it's in after a washing every game.

Well, the jersey itself looks like it hasn't seen many hockey action. Like I said, a few marks here and there, but besides that, it almost looks like a new jersey. Maybe it was only worn in one (preseason) game or something like that?

In the 2002-03 season, which is right after the date on the 'born on' sticker, Melichar only played 8 games all year.

From what I can see, the fight strap signing started with the Edge(07-08). That was Dana Heinze's second year as EM. Steve Latin was the EM before him and looks like he signed the "Customized by Cutting Edge Sports" tag, but that looks to have originated around the lockout maybe slightly before. But this is purely by observation...

I have seen gamers as early as 2002 with the cutting edge sports tagging.

Not sure about the fight strap signing, but the tagging should be there, preseason or otherwise.

It is probably a retail authentic with manufactured wear and probably took a marker to the size tag......but I'm no expert.....
