I think this is the best grab bag in years to be honest. The only better ones imo were the "Stamkos" $51 grab bag (other prizes were a blank pro stock) or the one where they allowed you to return it.

What is the grab bag this year? I looked on the site and only found the 2014 Playoff grab bag.

This money grab....er I mean grab bag is so awful this time it's a joke. You have an 80% chance to pull either a practice or person worn jersey of some no-name player that is worth at most $100.

Not only that but outside of 2 or 3 of the 15 "prizes" they all are terrible. Yeah a Colin white gamer is a real prize for sure. Plus lol that they value it at $395 when I got a white gamer from a collector for $150 and saw one on eBay a few months ago barely sell for $200.

Barry should really open a casino at this point as it almost seem like he makes more money from the gamblers in the hobby than actually marketing and selling the jerseys.

I had the same luck dropping $125 for a grab bag that turned out to be an Oilers practice jersey. I'd have trouble giving the thing away.

So with that in mind, $150 for a training camp jersey or pre-season scrub jersey doesn't sound unreasonable on the open market. Will people want it for less? Well, yeah. But it's certainly not unreasonable, and definitely not as silly as MeiGray asking $595 retail for a Jordan Caron jersey.

Hot seller...

I wonder if I buy more than one caron jersey do I get a discount?

I ordered one this year and am interested to see how this goes. Even if it is a scrub, I'll take the risk. Plus they've decreased the number of grab bags from 2013 and 2012.

You have an 80% chance of getting the practice or camp/pre-season worn jersey from a no-name player.

People here make fun of Flyers Green Jofa guy for trying to sell his practice jersey for $200, why would anyone think it would be even worth $150?

MGG will not know who wins which jersey until collectors call or e-mail us to register their jerseys. All Grab Bag purchases will be final. No exchanges or trades.

True but it's training camp, GI or pre-season worn jerseys. None of those can't be worth more than $125 and Meigray ain't putting in star players if they are putting in Lundin and White as one of the top 15 "prizes."

This grab bag (any pretty much every grab bag Meigray has done outside of a couple of them) prove there are suckers born every minute.

Most people would just use the training camp, GI, and preseason jerseys as ones to strip I would think though. $150 isn't a bad price for an Edge 2.0.

Certainly plenty of Grab Bags are money grabs, and the lesser prizes aren't anything to get excited about. People like to gamble, and people have large collections that they can find a way to fit whatever they get into their collections.

This is probably the second best Grab Bag I've seen though, the only better one being the one where you could trade it back in.

I'm sure most people don't view it as gambling $150 on the Grab Bag either. You have to figure that most of the jerseys can AT LEAST fetch $100... so most people probably view it as gambling $50 to win some pretty awesome prizes.

A grab bag is always a gamble of some degree. This one is less so than most. What would you guys like, for $150 everyone is guaranteed a hall of famer game worn jersey? To me, this is much better than the grab bags where I can spend $495 to have a 90% chance of getting a jersey I have zero interest in.

Or you can put that $150 towards something that you actually want towards the warehouse/summer sale instead of having an 80% chance of getting something worth about $100 and losing that $50. Hell usually in the week or two after the grab bags the market is flooded with these loser jerseys from these grab bags on ebay and sometimes I get them for a complete steal, so there is some silver lining.

I just really wish Barry would put as much time into doing a better job at pricing his jerseys a little better and more in-line with the market rather than trying to run a mini-casino to get some cash flow going into his business.

I wouldn't buy a grab bag, but I don't get the hate.

It's a good idea to make MONEY. That's his job, he's running a business.

A grab bag is no different than a raffle. Everybody understands they are getting the short end of the stick with a small chance at winning something, or at least they should.

You've been making some great counterpoints to the collective desire to buy in, and I'm totally with you when you say that it sucks to be the one to pull a $100 scrub jersey. But it's a bit unfair to say it's a sucker move to play. We could extrapolate and say we're suckers for collecting gamers at all. It's all in how the individual values it. Sure, it's gambling, but the odds are not bad compared to something like the lottery, or an actual casino.

I agree to an extent that many shirts on the site should be priced more accurately to their actual value (like I mentioned with the Caron jerseys), but we also have to remember that the MGG does this kind of stuff (high retail, grab-bag raffles with a high chance to land a dud, big summer/winter sales) because of the tight control it has over the supply of shirts (exclusive contracts with its teams, and with the NHL auction program). When you buy from the MGG, it's a "take it or leave it" deal. They are decently willing to sit on their stock until someone comes around to buy it on sale. And then the grab bags are a decently cost-effective way to clear dead weight.

That, and they are the only way a collector can acquire a player's shirt first-hand at all. Don't want it? Then it stays with them, and away from the hobby/community. On an open market (like private sales or on eBay), the seller doesn't have nearly as much leverage on the situation. I mean, it's not economically perfect, but it seems to be a working strategy for them and for the collecting community.

I'd like to hear some more input on what you'd like to see done better with the MGG, because maybe we've got ideas in common.

Unless Steiner Sports is the exclusive provider of Gameworn jerseys for your favorite team, I give no sympathy.

Almost nobody here would pay $7,500 for a Brodeur game jersey. A 1 in 75 chance to win it for $150? I bet more than a few people would take a shot at that.

Remember at least you win something. It could be something you didn't even want. Donate it to a charity it'll make ya feel warm and fuzzy

The one thing that I do wish MeiGray would do is list the lesser prizes as well. But it's something fun. It's also one of the cheaper things at the Expo. If I wasnt going, Id have no interest in buying, but since Im making the 4 hour round trip, it's nice to know Im not going home empty handed. Meigray is at least honest and puts the prizes in the boxes and someone wins. One in 75, why not me. Someone has to win, right? I also wouldnt mind a few others. The only way I'd really be upset with the grab bag is if I pull an Oiler or Thrasher. That being said, if anyone pulls an Isle and they dont want it, talk to yo boy first!

I agree with the person who made the point their pricing needs to be better

Maybe they could divide up the grab bags based on your choice of team. Like if you're a Rangers fan, pick them, and Barry would have like 15 Rangers jerseys ranging in value with one grand prize and four other decent jerseys. That way, at least you could get a game-issued (no practice jersey crap) that you could have the option to strip.

If they'd do it team specific I would definitely do it. Maybe I wind up with a practice jersey that I overpaid for, but at least it's my team's practice jersey. I'd be ok with taking that chance.

Of course, some teams would sell out instantly and others not at all.

I really want to focus on Isles, but if I get a jersey with cool customization (like the Preds sublimated letters or the Avs font, etc) or a nice jersey (Bruins, Canucks, hell even Flames), I really wouldnt object. At worst you're getting a customized authentic for $150. At worst! Also, they are giving you the $25 gift card to spend in the warehouse too. So if you were planning on buying something anyway, $25 is an additional 10% off the sale price if you were to buy a $500 jersey.

I thought it was a $50.00 gift certificate? On a jersey $395.00 or higher...
