villavelocity
Good riddance.... Acquiring Cullemore looks as though the Souray contract offer may not have been enough http://www.habsinsideout.com/2007/06/samso...o_for_c_1/#more Villa
JeffB
WHO would even want him? Oh, Chicago of course. That's a great move for the Hawks. Brother. What possible upside is there to taking him on when he's never, ever scored even 30 goals?
Mach_9
Gainey says he's buying Cullimore out immediately. Cullimore will never dress for the Canadiens. Basically, Cullimore is a cheaper buyout than Samsonov would have been, so they swap an expensive buyout for a cheap one and pick up a Samsonov-lite type player in Salmeleinen (at 1/5 the price) in the process and that's that. Cullimore will create a $.600k cap hit once bought out, Salmeleinen has a $.700k cap hit (and will probably be in the minors, where it won't even count) and they shed $3.525m for next season. Meanwhile, it's really a "high-risk" player at no risk for the Hawks, since the Hawks don't HAVE anything to risk, seeing as how the playoff picture is still too far away to even describe for Chicago. If Samsonov turns out to be a bust in Chicago as well, his contract ends next year and they say good riddance. If he prospers with Havlat or something than it's a kind of happy accident. And they get rid of Cullimores decrepid contract (Who the hell signed him to a $1.9m a year deal in the first place?!). Good deal for both teams. lafountain
Well we knew Samsanov wouldn't be with Montreal this upcoming season as the team even said "He will not be a Canadien when next season begins". One way or another he was gonna be gone. Though as Mach said, there really is no risk for Chicago. Gotta wonder if there were any other teams interested in Samsanov. Brilliant!
That's a good move on the Habs' part. Now they just need to find a way to get rid of Kovalev and they'll be set!
ZoomZoom18
Finally putting Samsonov where he's been rumoured to go for the last couple of seasons.
SabreFaninNYC
That's a good move on the Habs' part. Now they just need to find a way to get rid of Kovalev and they'll be set! haha- too true although I doubt they will move him.
Crimson
What possible upside is there to taking him on when he's never, ever scored even 30 goals? I think the entire Chicago roster combined has scored 30 goals (mostly by Havlat)
lafountain
The demise of Sergei Samsanov continues as he was sent down to Chicago's AHL affiliate. He had managed to play in 23 games for Chicago managing a whopping 0 goals and 4 assists. The guy just hasn't been the same since he left Boston. rabinsurance
He's playing for the Rockford IceHogs. I was able to watch the game tonight vs. Lake Erie on TV. He had 10 shots (the team had 33 total) in a 2-0 loss to the Monsters. He looked to be the best Rockford player on the ice. You wonder about his attitude, though. It reminds me of when Pittsburgh sent Petr Klima down to Cleveland of the IHL. He was fine for a week or so, but when they had to play a road game in Detroit vs. the Vipers, he refused to go because he was embarassed to play in the minors in a city where he played in the NHL. He didn't last long after that.
lafountain
Samsanov was claimed by the Hurricanes on re-entry waivers. http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?articleid=34918...mp;service=page
villavelocity
From Calder winner to..... I hope he finds his game for his own sake. Its clear he has talent but maybe not the desire. Villa
Crimson
Sounds like he needs to find a center with whom he clicks with, like back in the day with Joe Thornton. So far, he's averaging about 18 minutes of ice time a game and he's already got 2 goals and 5 assists in 7 games with the 'Canes, so it sounds like he's on either the first or second line and it's working out. lafountain
Looking at the boxscores of his games he is out there with Brind'Amour and Cole or Whitney most of the time. He has scored a point in 4 of the last 5 games, not a bad run at all.
