JeffB
When I'm writing my blog, the Third String Goalie Style Guide dictates we go with "jersey" for modern polyester uniforms and "sweater" for wool ones.
cuore_azzurro
Stephen Harper has been in business and politics his whole life, I'm not sure I'd consider him an expert on the subject... It was called a hockey sweater for 100 years and I'm going to continue to call it that, no matter what Gary Bettman and Reebok attempt to shove down my throat. Jersey is simply a term that was adopted from baseball, basketball and football by American commentators and writers, just like neutral zone, which comes from basketball. Well, my grandfather used to call cars "horseless carriages", but who would argue that that's meaningful terminology?

That's what's always made sense to me -- the term changed when the garment did. I find it a helpful distinction, as it tells me something about its makeup. So we are all Sweater fans on this the Ice-sweater fourms!?! :0 It's just don't sound right too me. I bet Harper can stretch the neck of ANY sweater or jersey at ANY size.
