ZoomZoom18
http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/story/9443576...to-11-year-deal Good move? I noticed that the article says the contract averages out to $3.95 million a season. I'm not quite too sure what to think about it really, but I guess if he takes less to stay in that situation they have up there, then it'll be worth it for both parties. lafountain
Franzen is good, but I don't think he is someone that should have been signed to an 11 year deal. The contract carries him to the age of 40. Looks like the Wings are already trying to lock up the core of the team until they all retire. Gotta wonder what kind of offer is gonna be thrown at Hossa. ZoomZoom18
Gotta wonder what kind of offer is gonna be thrown at Hossa. I'm thinking the same thing. It really almost seems like Marian wants to stay in Detroit long term and who could blame him. I just wonder how much money he's willing to give up in the long run. Crimson
My gut feeling is that it has to be a cap number around $6, because otherwise, we lose too many depth players or won't be able to afford to match offer sheets for the RFAs. Too many Detroit newspaper readers are demanding that guys like Lidstrom and Rafalski restructure their contracts to accommodate Hossa (never mind that they obviously haven't paid attention to that little thing called the "CBA"). The Red Wings did that before, in about 2001-02, which probably led to that clause in the CBA that prevents salaries from being renegotiated up or down during the term except in the final year, at which an extension can be offered.
