HawksFanInDC
So, was wasting time today and found this listing on ebay, claims to be an authentic green Whalers CCM jersey. The tagging makes it from the 1991/1992 season if you look at the NHL Uniform Database. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Authentic-CCM-Center-Ice-Hartford-Whalers-Pro-Jersey-48-/320978809294?pt=U_Hockey_Fan_Shop&hash=item4abbd3f1ce http://www.nhluniforms.com/Whalers/Whalers5.html I then thought that this material looks very odd for an NHL jersey, it is obviously not ultrafil, but not air knit either, a heavier mesh I see on amatuer jerseys. Looking I found the first example of a 1991/1992 game worn, which is ultrafil, leading me to think it is fake. http://www.gamewornauctions.net/products/1991_92_Trevor_Steinburg_Whalers_Game_Worn_Jersey_75_year_NHL-1233-33.html Then I found this game worn listing for a 1991/1992 game worn, which says it is made out of the heavy mesh, but there is no NHL 75th Anniversary patch. http://www.classicauctions.net/Default.aspx?tabid=263&auctionid=3&lotid=454 Simple questions, real or fake, and if real when was it worn? slimcutta
Notice the one on ebay has angled arm stripes, '90-91, similar to my Dineen here (shameless self promotion ) - The link you want is here, but notice the rear hem shows the old block CCM, with no NHL shield, yet in '90-91 they had the newer big block and shield. NHLUniforms is a fantastic site, but not always 100%. While the '91-92 you're referencing has straight stripes, like my '89-90 Francis - Also note, other than being straight, the length of the sleeve stripes on a '91-92 would be placed lower on the sleeves -

So it appears legit to me, unfortunately I had my heart set on ultrafil and the 75th anni patch so I will pass. Thanks for the info.
slimcutta
No problem. FYI - the seller's a member here, just rarely contributes. Finding a '91-92 ultrafil would be freakin awesome!!
DC Red Wings
Bump! I can't see any of the pictures in this thread or visit the ebay link anymore but I also wanted to ask about older Whalers style jerseys (when Green was the dominant color, not blue). From all that I can find it looks like they wore heavy mesh in the late eighties until the 89-90 season when they went to airknit. Then it looks like they went back to the heavy mesh for the 90-91 season and then finally to ultrafil for 91-92 and they kept Ultrafil when they introduced the new style in 92-93. I'm mostly interested in what they wore in the 1989-90 season. It looks like they wore the open blocks with no shield in the earlier part of the season and then the closed blocks with the shield in the later half of the season. Does anyone know for sure or have a way of confirming this? I'm not finding pictures of any game worn stuff from that season other than one jersey at Drop the Pucks that had open blocks and seems to be from the earlier part of the season. On Youtube I found a clip from the 1990 playoffs and it shows closed blocks with the shield but I can't get enough detail in it to know what kind of material they are wearing. LAK74
Three 89/90 gamers here at Classic, all air-knit and with the small block CCM logo: http://www.classicauctions.net/Default.aspx?tabid=546&keywords=Whalers+jersey+1989-90&closed=true Maybe not much help but at least it supports your hypothesis. DC Red Wings
Thanks for those! Somehow I need to figure out if those playoffs jerseys are heavy mesh that they wore into 1990-91 or if they are airknit.
slimcutta
They're Air-Knit, 100%.
