As many who have Direct TV probably know by now, we lost Vs. on August 31st as there is a dispute between Comcast (who owns Vs.) and Direct TV. From October 1st to October 24th, there is a free Center Ice preview, its in the late 700s, from 769-785. Supposedly some people have been able to get deals on Center Ice when they called to complain to Direct TV regarding Vs.

I heard this too, to get the free center ice I think you have to choose the cancel option when you call. Then they transfer you to a "retention specialist". Be politely assertive that you are canceling because you are a die hard hockey fan and now you can't see the regular season or playoffs on VS, and you are about to break out in sweats like a dope junkie who can't get a fix. Then to keep you around they will give you center ice free as an appeasement

At least that's something. I have Vs on Comcast and I wish they would take the channel away and give me CI for free!

I wish I had the opportunity to order Center Ice - my cable provider stopped carrying it 3 or 4 years ago. If I'm going to be stuck with VS I atleast wish I had it in HD but no luck there either.

Wow, that sucks! How come the NHL related distributors always have these issues with the cable providers? Ok, the sport is no longer Big 4 but for the fans that are left, why not allow us to watch the games?

I don't expect too much because I live in Kentucky (just on the other side of the river from Cincinnati, Ohio).

I do think it's funny that I get 3 different Fox Sports feeds which should get me access to Columbus, Nashville, and Carolina games, but they normally get replaced with local programming (despite what my cable guide says).

If I lived across the river in Cincy, I'd get NHL Network and be able to order Center Ice, but have only a 50/50 shot at having VS depending on where I lived.

As much as I dislike Comcast they did put the NHL Network on the free tier of programming this year and continue to offer CI along with Vs (no surprise there). In addition to the three NHL feeds from the local teams here in Gotham, I think I am pretty much covered. Its amazing to hear other stories from across the country like yours where you are in a geographic notch of hockey nothingness. I would give serious consideration to moving if I was ever in that notch (I can't live without my jams!).

After watching Center Ice the last few days, I'm loving it. I'd gladly add that to my Direct TV package. Since I've got FSN SouthWest, I'm not too worried about the lack of hockey after October 24th, but I'm seriously considering splurging and going for Center Ice. The Stars aren't broadcast on there all the time. I'm to the point now to where I could care less if I had Vs. or not. You get what, one or two, maybe three games a week with Vs.? With CI you get games practically every night and you can watch most teams in the league, other than the ones that Vs. decides to pick as the "game of the week".

That and as an IndyCar fan, the silence on their end has been deafening regarding this whole matter. Enough to a point to where I could care less if I even watch another IndyCar race on Vs. They raced at Chicagoland right before Vs. went off the air on Direct TV and the entire race was a p***ing match between Comcast/Vs. and Direct TV regarding their contract dispute which was aggravating to watch. They were running commercials and a ticker across the bottom of the screens regarding the whole matter. Then to add to it, I thought it looked like they were switching the feed from HD to regular at different intervals throughout the race. Thankfully, the Indy 500 will be on ABC (for now) and then I can go to Texas Motor Speedway if I want my IndyCar fix. Its too bad too, they have a three-way battle for the championship with the last race of the season coming at Homestead this weekend. The last couple of years their championship battles have been superb... Oh well...
